National Gas Aggregation Program
The Anderson Township Board of Township Trustees on April 16, 2026, ratified a rate contract with Direct Energy Services as natural gas provider to the Township’s Aggregation Program. The contract sets the fixed retail price for the Gas Cost Charge for eligible participants in the township’s aggregation program at $0.5399/CCF, plus tax. The term begins with the July 2026 meter read date and continues through the July 2027 meter read date, with no termination fee, and “open” enrollment. Opt-out notices for eligible customers are scheduled to be mailed from Direct Energy Services on May 22, 2026.
On November 8, 2022, 66.58% of voters approved a ballot measure authorizing the Board of Trustees to form an opt-out natural gas aggregation program. “Opt-out” aggregation is a program that automatically enrolls all local eligible residents, unless they individually opt-out of the program and choose not to be included.
Beginning April 1, 2026, customers who receive their natural gas supply from Duke Energy Ohio will see a change in how their natural gas supply charges are calculated and displayed on their bills. This change applies only to those customers who have selected Duke Energy Ohio as their supplier or who receive supply service by default under the state's energy choice Ohio program. Historically, natural gas supply charges appeared on customer bills as the Gas Cost Recovery (GCR) charge which was calculated monthly based on anticipated natural gas costs. Effective April 1, the GCR will be replaced by the Standard Service Offer (SSO) natural gas cost charge. The SSO is a market-based monthly variable rate and is calculated based on the two main components: a fixed retail price adjustment sent annually through a competitive auction and the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) month end settlement price which fluctuates monthly to reflect wholesale natural gas market costs.
Please note that residents in the aggregation program can opt out of the program at any time and there is no fee to do so. It should also be noted that Anderson Township government does not receive any revenue share or any type of fee(s) as part of this program.
Eligible new residents may join the aggregation program after the expiration of the initial opt-out period by contacting our broker, Energy Alliance at 513 794.5555 or Direct Energy Services at 866.968.8065. The rate will be the same as the rate negotiated for the aggregation program.
