Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office District 5 & Anderson Township Partner with Nextdoor

Adoption Will Allow Sheriff’s Office and Anderson Township Residents to Communicate via Private, Secure Neighborhood Websites

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office District 5 and Anderson Township announced today a partnership with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve town-wide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications and facilitate virtual neighborhood watch.

This integration with Nextdoor will enable the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office District 5 in Anderson Township to build stronger, safer communities with the help of Anderson Township residents. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Nextdoor neighborhoods will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch.

“Having the ability to easily communicate with residents is extremely vital to not only maintaining, but increasing, safety and reducing crime within Anderson Township neighborhoods,” said Cpl. Dave Boiman with the Sheriff’s Office. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and connected and give them the ability to collaborate on virtual neighborhood watch efforts.”

Already Nextdoor has proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for residents in the area -- 36 neighborhoods in Anderson Township are using Nextdoor.

With Nextdoor, Anderson Township residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The Sheriff’s Office District 5, working with Anderson Township staff, will be able to post information, such as important news, services, safety tips and emergency notifications to Nextdoor sites within the township.

Nextdoor is free for residents, the Sheriff's Office, and Anderson Township. Each Hamilton County neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website and the Sheriff's Office will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.

Notes Township Trustee Second Vice President Andrew Pappas, “I’m a huge fan of more cooperation between the Sheriff’s Office and the public. It is good that our citizens are having more interaction with the Sheriff’s Office through social media, website or important Neighborhood Watch programs.  We all win.”

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If residents have questions about their Nextdoor website, please visit help.nextdoor.com.
