Kidde disposable fire extinguishers recalled

Battalion Chief Rick Martin of the Anderson Township Fire and Rescue Department advises township residents that a plastic disposable fire extinguisher manufactured by Kidde from 2013-2014 has been recalled due to failure to discharge.

Martin notes that a recall advisory released on Thursday noted that a faulty valve component can cause the disposable fire extinguishers to not fully discharge when the lever is repeatedly pressed and released. No injuries have been reported in the 11 devices that have been reported as malfunctioning during an emergency.

The disposable fire extinguishers were sold at Walmart, Menards, Home Depot and other home and hardware stores. The extinguishers cost from $18 to $65, with one model also recalled costing $200.
