Construction starts June 5 on vet’s memorial

Construction starts June 5 on Anderson’s long-awaited veteran’s memorial which will be built alongside Anderson Lake.

Located on the south plaza of Anderson Center, the Anderson Township Veterans memorial includes five pillars representing each branch of the U.S. military. 

Multiple community partners worked to make the project a reality including Anderson Township, American Legion Post 318, the Anderson Township Park District and the Forest Hills School District. Fundraising for the project took three years and resulted in $85,000. 

The site is fitting for the project, as it currently hosts the annual township Memorial Day Remembrance and Bell Ringing service. 

Organizers expect construction to wind up in late-July.
