Farmers’ Market going strong in 10th year

The Anderson Farmers’ Market continues its efforts to link consumers and local producers each Saturday at Anderson Center Station from 9 a.m. to noon.

“As we transition to a vendor-run market we are asking for support from the community,” said farmers’ market spokesperson Julia Rothwell. “Right now, we need customers to keep the market going.”

To let potential customers know about market activities and market updates, vendors have created a new Facebook page: Anderson Township Farmers’ Market.

Rothwell said vendors plan to create a not-for-profit entity that is managed by the vendors. “Once we have established our independent entity, we will negotiate a new contract with the township” and hopefully entice a few seasoned vendors to return.

Musicians and musical groups have been volunteering their time to support the market this year and keep the mood festive. The upcoming music schedule includes:
July 8: Jess Likus
July 15: Forest Hills Bluegrass Band
July 29: Brian Buckley
August 5: The Two of Us
August 12: The Encore Duo
August 19: Big Island Duo
August 26: Jess Likus

“Our goal is to reenergize the market and create a shopping experience that provides the community with unique, top quality produce and cottage products from local farmers and artisans,” Rothwell said.

“Please stop by, show your support, have some coffee, enjoy some music and bring home some awesome local produce and homemade goodies,” she added.
