Memorial Day Remembrance and Bell Ringing Ceremony
The annual local remembrance of men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military is scheduled for Monday, May 28, at the outdoor plaza at Anderson Center.
Set for 11:45 a.m. on Memorial Day, the Memorial Day Remembrance and Bell Ringing Ceremony is hosted around the township’s new Anderson Township Veterans Memorial which was completed in 2017. The Anderson Township Veterans Committee organizes the event. Speaking is Captain Tim Waechter, the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Air Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and Services Medals, the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Services Medal.
Organizers include a solemn remembrance of veterans by reading names of deceased members of the armed forces. If you wish to have your loved one’s name read during the ceremony, sign in by 11:45 a.m. The official ceremony starts at noon.
A remembrance wreath will be placed at the base of the American flag and a three-volley rifle salute will be given over the lake, with “Taps” echoed from the overlook.
The event will be hosted rain or shine. Contact Molly Mohrfield at 688- 8400 or email her at mmohrfield@AndersonTownship.org.
