Fire Department Offers New Outreach Opportunities During COVID-19 Pandemic
Given the various measures in place to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Anderson Township Fire and Rescue Department is looking at different ways to interact with Anderson Township and village of Newtown residents and still maintain social distancing. Two new programs open to any resident in Anderson or Newtown are fire truck drive-by parades and sidewalk chalk art.
Residents may have noticed other area departments doing parades where the fire trucks drive by houses with their lights and sirens on. These have been especially popular for birthdays when parties had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. The fire department’s hope is that seeing fire trucks drive by will help brighten your family’s day. To schedule your fire truck drive parade for a birthday or just because, contact Firefighter Doug Eagan at deagan@andersontownship.org
With the weather starting to warm up, sidewalk chalk art has been a popular activity for families during the “Stay at Home” order. The fire department invites all residents to spread the word about fire and life safety or send a message to your Anderson firefighters using sidewalk chalk. Websites that are a great start for ideas and safety information are: https://www.ready.ohio.gov/ReadyForFirePrevention.stm and http://www.sparky.org/parents. Use the hashtag #andersonfiresafety or #ourandersonfirefighters and you could see your art shared on our social media platforms.
The fire department wishes all our residents’ safety and health, as we all do our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Know that your fire department is eagerly awaiting the time when it is safe to resume our traditional outreach opportunities such as fire station visits, touch-a-truck events and other ways we interact with our community.
