Anderson Township’s Independence Day Parade Cancelled for 2020

Anderson Township Trustees have announced the cancellation of the 2020 Independence Day Parade, scheduled for July 4.

"As one of the biggest and best events we coordinate every year, it's with great disappointment that we have to cancel The Fourth of July parade,” said Trustee Chair Josh Gerth. “Due to the immense amount of pre-planning, including coordinating sponsors, participants, and logistics with closing Beechmont Avenue, we simply can't wait any longer to see what changes may take place with social distancing guidelines.”

“Furthermore, with so many other holiday events being canceled, we cannot anticipate what kind of crowd we would have on top of what are already thousands of people who attend each year,” he said.  

Steve Sievers, the coordinator of the Anderson Township Independence Parade, and one of its founders added “We, like so many in our community, are saddened to face this decision, after 15 years of celebrating together on Beechmont Avenue.  However, it is critical to continue to do what we can to keep our community healthy and safe.” 

The parade is one of the largest in the region, drawing nearly 10,000 spectators and participants.

“We look forward to the Parade’s return next year, tentatively planned for Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 10 a.m.,” Sievers added.
