Get Prepared for Life’s Emergencies

Life comes at your quickly, and sometimes that involves a curveball from Mother Nature. Don’t be caught without the essentials you need or a plan for your family during emergencies!

September is National Preparedness Month. Learn more about the hazards that could impact you and ways to receive alerts and warnings about emergency situations.

Hamilton County families know local emergencies can include severe weather, hazardous materials spills, power outages and public health emergencies.

The Hamilton County EMA provides a few tips to help you get your plan in order:

1.     Sign up for Alert Hamilton County for emergency messages. Alert Hamilton County is paired with Smart911, allowing you to create a Safety Profile of important family, medical, and personal information that can be shared with dispatchers and first responders during an emergency. Sign up at: www.alerthc.org.

2.     Build a Preparedness Kit. Essential elements should be stored away in a water-tight container that can be “Grab and Go” in the event of an evacuation. Creating a kit does not have to be expensive or difficult, as most items you should include are already in your home. Visit: www.ready.gov/kit.

3.     Make a Plan. Discuss with the members of your household how you will communicate in the event of a disaster, where you will meet to reunite, and how you will receive emergency alerts and warnings. Visit: www.ready.gov/plan.
