Memorial Day Remembrance Honors Our Heroes
Honor those men and women who have sacrificed to maintain our freedoms at a solemn annual remembrance of fallen veterans.
The Memorial Day Bell Ceremony is set for 11:45 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Anderson Center. Organized by the Anderson Township Veterans Memorial Committee, the event is hosted outdoors on the South Plaza.
The speaker for the commemoration is Captain Tim Waechter, a veteran of the Vietnam war. Waechter was shot down over Cambodia and rescued by combat search and rescue.
The ceremony includes the release of a remembrance wreath from the weir on Anderson Lake and a three-volley rifle salute over the lake. The ceremony concludes with “Taps” echoed from the overlook. The event will be hosted rain or shine.
Names of deceased members of the armed forces will be read during the ceremony. Sign in by 11:45 a.m. if you wish to have your loved one’s name read during the ceremony. The event starts at noon.
