Little Miami Scenic Trail Groundbreaking Kicks Off Construction

Anderson Township officials, plus representatives from the Anderson Township Park District, Great Parks of Hamilton County and more ceremonially kicked off construction of a 3.2 mile extension of the Little Miami Trail this week.

The longtime project will take riders from Little Miami Golf Center, west along Ohio 32, to the City of Cincinnati Recreation Commission parking lot next to Speedway. Construction is expected to wind up in spring 2016.

Eight years of planning and working within partnerships allowed the project to move forward, said Steve Sievers, assistant administrator for operations. The Little Miami Trail cuts across the state and is the fourth longest paved rail trail in the United States, weaving riders in and out of urban and rural areas in mostly shady terrain.

Anderson’s new link is made possible primarily by funds obtained in 2008 from a Federal Transportation Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant. Anderson and Great Parks of Hamilton County will provide a local match to build this section of the trail. Total cost is estimated at $2,633,981, with grant funding providing approximately $1,944,000. Great Parks will manage the project, which will be completed by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
