FEMA to Help with Funeral Costs for COVID-19 Deaths

Starting next month, FEMA will provide financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020 related to the COVID-19 crisis.

The goal is to help ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the pandemic. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide up to $9,000 per funeral and up to $35,500 per applicant.

There are several eligibility factors that must be met. Applicants need to present an official death certificate indicating a high likelihood of death due to the coronavirus. Funeral expense documents also will need to be shared. If multiple people contributed toward the funeral expenses, one application is sufficient to request assistance.
