The Anderson Center Station park and ride facility is being temporarily relocated starting November 6 to make way for upcoming site work beginning later this year on a high-end apartment community, Vantage at Anderson Towne Center.
METRO riders will be directed a couple hundred feet down, and across Towne Center Way, where spots will be dedicated to the temporary park and ride. The leased spaces are between Rancheros, the AMC Theater and TriHealth’s parking garage, on the Anderson Towne Center and TriHealth properties.
The overflow from busy Anderson Center events formerly used the park and ride for large evening occasions. Overflow parking will now be available at the TriHealth parking garage and a shuttle will be provided by the township.
Work on the new apartment community is expected to take several years, according to Steve Sievers, assistant township administrator of operations. The township has entered into the temporary parking agreement until the end of 2023. Prior to the opening of the apartment community in 2024-2025, the park and ride located on the lower level of the Vantage development will be available for use.
“The new park and ride will be a win-win situation,” said Sievers. “This new facility will offer covered parking for METRO riders and provide much more convenient overflow parking location for Anderson Center events,” he added.
Hills Properties is developing the prime site into two four-story buildings above a three-story parking garage that tapers with the hillside, sloping from the Towne Center Way to the north.
“This public-private partnership, which does not entail taxpayer dollars, will also add a new upscale apartment option, which has significant demand in the heart of our community,” added Trustee Chair Josh Gerth. “This will not only fill a need, greatly add to the economic health of the township and school district, but will help complete the Downtown Anderson Plan which has always included a residential component that will help with the vitality of the Anderson Towne Center and surrounding businesses,” he said.
