‘Big Dig’ Archeology Project Update Set for June 5

Interested in the archaeological project ongoing in Anderson Township near the Little Miami River? An update on the Turpin Greenspace excavation site is planned in June.

The Anderson Township Historical Society hosts an open house and discussion of the Miami Valley Recollection and Reconnection project led by Dr. Rob Cook, professor of archeology at Ohio State. The event is Wednesday, June 5 at Anderson Center, 7850 Five Mile Road. The open house begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. presentation and meeting.

The Miami Valley Recollection and Reconnection project is now in its third year exploring past archeologists’ work on township Greenspace property. Excavation has uncovered information on precontact descendent communities, plus details about more recent residents of the land along the river. Cook, students and colleagues return to the site from June 3 to June 28 to gather more information.
