Emergency Supply Tips

It’s been a few years since we’ve had a severe winter storm such as what is predicted for the coming days.  However, it is winter and as snow, ice, and prolonged subfreezing temperatures are predicted, with possible power outages, if you haven’t done so already, consider adding items to your supply kit:

• Rock salt or other environmentally safe products to melt ice on walkways. Visit the Environmental Protection Agency for a list of recommended products.

• Sand to improve traction.

• Snow shovels and other snow removal equipment.

• Sufficient heating fuel and/or a good supply of dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove.

• Adequate clothing and blankets.

• Flashlights and batteries

• Several days of necessary medications

Please note that generators and fuel should always be used outdoors and at least 20 feet away from windows, doors and attached garages.
