Reminders on Winter Fire Safety

Wood burning and heater season is now here, and the Anderson Township Fire and Rescue Department reminds residents that a bit of caution goes a long way in keeping your home fire safe.

How to stay fire safe:

• Keep flammable items at least three feet from heat sources like radiators, space heaters, fireplaces and wood stoves.

• Plug only one heat-producing appliance (such as a space heater) into an electrical outlet at a time.

• Ensure you have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home, as well as a functioning CO detector.  Check these on a monthly basis.

• All heaters should have a tip-over/turn-off switch, and be plugged straight into the outlet (no extension cords)
